“I am a story teller and visual problem-solver. I love transforming raw words and imagery into a clear and logical design, creating hierarchy from anarchy.”
Joining Benz at the height of open enrollment, Dave seamlessly dived into multiple client teams, gracefully producing a number of print and web deliverables for several of our Fortune 500 clients. No surprise there! Dave spent 15 years as an art director for national consumer magazines, launching new designs, spearheading makeovers, and crafting editorial content with writers, photographers, and designers for publications owned by Time, Inc., and Future Publishing. He has also worked with TriNet, Suzuki, Sega, Microsoft, and Intel, as well as Amazon and eBay.
Dave began his career as a project manager, heading up the custom publishing department at San Francisco State University’s bookstore. However, that didn’t satisfy the visual thinker in him, and he returned to school to study industrial art and design. He has spent the past two decades melding his passion for design with his love of words.
Clients remember Dave as the guy who says, “yes.” Yes—he likes rules and appreciates prescribed methods, but he also enjoys debating choices. And he doesn’t bat an eyelash when he needs to break those same rules and push usual methods aside to get the best user experience for his clients.
Dave was raised in Turlock, Calif., “the perfect place to grow up but not to grow professionally.” He moved to the Bay Area to do that, and today lives in the East Bay with his family. He’s a fan of pop culture in all its manifestations—music, film, TV, and fiction—and recently parlayed his love of building things into a two-story playhouse for his 6-year-old son. Dogs, weekend getaways, and yearly trips to Mexico are also high on his list of favorite things, as are cheese and Thanksgiving.
